After The Surgery
- How long does the recovery process take after the surgery?
It is advisable to take a week off after the surgery, and you can return to work after one week. Swelling related to the surgery may take 3-4 weeks to subside. The full recovery process takes at least 6 months. - Will I experience pain after the surgery?
At the beginning of the surgery, we administer a local anesthetic solution to the areas where the procedure will be performed, so you are protected from pain for the first 24 hours. After that, muscle pain, which can be managed with simple painkillers, may occur. While you are in the hospital, we support you with intravenous painkillers, and we also prescribe medication for you upon discharge. - When can I start walking after the surgery?
You will be walking with the support of the nurses on the evening of the surgery. - Will I have swelling after the surgery? If so, how long will it take to go away?
You will have swelling, particularly in your lower leg, and it will take 3-4 weeks for the swelling to subside. - When can I return to my daily life?

In advanced cases and for patients whose hemoglobin levels are not very high before the surgery, a blood transfusion may be necessary, although it is rare. - Should I be concerned if there is fluid leakage from the dressing areas after the surgery?
Leaking may occur in the first few days, but it is quite rare. - Is it normal to have redness, bruising, and numbness in the areas where liposuction was performed?
Bruising and temporary numbness can occur. However, redness, localized heat, or excessive pain are not normal, and you should immediately contact Dr. Demirtaş. - Can I wear compression stockings or a different type of tights instead of the corset after the surgery?
Especially in the first month, you should only use the corset we provide. - Can I purchase an extra backup corset?
You will be provided with 2 corsets for the legs, and one for the arms and abdomen (if necessary). If you would like an extra corset, you can obtain it from us for an additional fee. - Do you recommend manual lymphatic drainage massage after surgery? How long should we wait before starting manual lymphatic drainage?
The first session of your lymphatic drainage massage will be performed by our therapist, Ms. Hamiyet, the day after your surgery, before you are discharged from the hospital. If you are staying near the hospital or if we have arranged your hotel, you will receive two additional lymphatic drainage sessions free of charge after discharge. Our therapist will also teach you self-drainage techniques. We do not recommend lymphatic drainage performed by anyone other than our therapist during the first week. - Will I experience dizziness after the surgery?
It may occur within the first 24 hours. - How long after surgery can I take a shower?
Your first shower will be supervised by our therapist, Ms. Hamiyet, before you are discharged from the hospital, and she will help you put on your spare compression garment. - How long should I wear the compression garment after surgery?
The leg compression garment should be worn for 3 months. For the first month, you will wear it 24 hours a day, removing it only for showers. After that, you will wear it during the daytime for 2 more months. The arm and abdominal compression garments should be worn for 1 month. - What happens if I don't wear the compression garment after surgery?
There is no such option. - How long can I go without wearing a corset in daily life?
You can remove the leg corset for showers or if you're going swimming during the first month. After a month, you can take it off for a few hours during special occasions in the daytime. You can also remove the arm and abdominal corsets for a few hours to wash and dry them. - Can the wound sites remain open after the surgery?
Yes. Dressing is not required. - Do we need to have the stitches removed from the wound sites after the surgery?
No. The stitches will dissolve on their own. If you feel a knot in your hand after two weeks, simply cutting the knot will be sufficient. - How long after the surgery can I start exercising?

- Does lipedema treatment provide a permanent solution?
VASER liposuction treatment resets the disease. In patients who continue with healthy eating and exercise, lipedema does not recur. If you gain weight for any reason, it will be distributed proportionally across your body, and when you try to lose weight, you can also lose it proportionally from your entire body. - Does pregnancy affect lipedema?
